Terms of service
Last updated: April 19, 2026
These terms cover simonlpaige.com and the web design services provided by Simon L. Paige Web Design, a brand of Groundlayer LLC ("I", "me").
The website
This website is provided as-is. I try to keep the information accurate, but I make no guarantees. Use it at your own discretion.
Web design services
When you hire me to build a website, here's how it works:
- You own your code. I build the site, you own the HTML, CSS, and content. If you leave, you take it with you.
- Build fees are one-time. You pay once for the build. The monthly fee covers hosting and maintenance.
- Monthly hosting is month-to-month. You can cancel anytime. Your site stays live through the end of the billing period.
- Revisions are included. Each plan includes up to three rounds of revisions during the build. After that, small updates are covered by your monthly hosting fee.
- Large changes cost extra. If you need a major redesign, new pages beyond your plan, or custom features added later, we'll agree on a price before I start.
Payments
Build fees are due before work begins, or 50% upfront and 50% before go-live. Monthly hosting is billed through Stripe on the same date each month. If a payment fails, I'll email you. If it's not resolved within 14 days, I may take the site offline until we sort it out.
What I'm responsible for
- Building your site to the spec we agree on.
- Keeping it online and running during your hosting period.
- Responding to your emails within one business day (same day for Custom plan clients).
- Handing you your files if you cancel.
What I'm not responsible for
- Content you provide that turns out to be wrong or someone else's.
- Downtime caused by GitHub Pages, Cloudflare, or other hosting infrastructure outside my control.
- Lost revenue or business outcomes. I build websites well, but I can't guarantee what happens after someone visits yours.
Intellectual property
You own the content and code for your site. I retain the right to show your site in my portfolio and link to it from my footer credit line, unless you ask me not to.
Cancellation
Either of us can end the relationship at any time. If you cancel, I'll send you your site files and stop billing. If I need to end things (it hasn't happened yet), I'll give you 30 days to find another host and hand over everything.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Missouri. Any disputes will be resolved in Jackson County, Missouri.
Changes
If these terms change, I'll update the date at the top and email active clients about anything that affects their service.
